Patrick McGown has been involved with photography since he watched his father stop the car to get out and get images that would later become subject matter for his watercolor obsession.
The spark was lit and he remembers the exact moment he resolved to make his own mark in photography. While vacationing, he hired a photographer to shoot a family portrait and was none too pleased with the result. The next day, he purchased Canon’s first consumer DSLR, the digital EOS Rebel. He never looked back.
Initially, he focused on sports photography and later expanded into portraiture, architectural and commercial photography. Eventually, there was no way to ignore the pull to become a full time professional and in 2016, he got his chance when he purchased Motophoto Tyler.
Since that time, he has worked on developing his understanding of photography, video and their place in display media of all kinds.
He and his lovely wife Mary live in the bustling metropolis of Flint, just a stone’s throw from Tyler. As far as his “free time” goes, there’s not much to report. Because since he came to Motophoto, there really isn’t too much “free time”! Still, he sneaks away occasionally to drive up to the University of Arkansas with Mary and visit their son, Jonathan. And by the way, Patrick still has his Dad’s Minolta X-700 35mm film camera.
Tip of the day
Lighting your subject is easier if the photographer has his back to the brightest light source. Exceptions can include creating silhouettes and deliberately using lens flare for a special effect.
